What Is The Higher Self?

What Is The Higher Self?

Are we just a body with a personality? From my understanding, we are much more than that. Each one of us has a higher aspect. This higher aspect has been typically called the Higher Self. Others have also referred to it as the Oversoul or Overself.

Who and what is the Higher Self? The Higher Self is the intelligence and wisdom aspect of our own self. Ironically, the Higher Self is impersonal and does not have a ‘sense of self’ like the way our personality is. Nevertheless, it serves as a guiding aspect for the personality or ego.

Can this elusive higher self be contacted?

Yes, and typically it is done through meditation or some other altered states of consciousness.

I first encountered my Higher Self through a guided meditation at a retreat.

She looks much like me, only healthier. She has a white aura around her, usually. Sometimes it is indigo or violet.

She's been where I have been. She knows where I am going. She is wise.

I can ask her questions and she will give me guidance.

She shows up in my Reiki sessions.

If you would like help reaching out to your higher self, schedule a session with me.

Healers need Healers

Grief hit last night.
I had my daughter and her two kids over for most of the day. Even though there were fun parts, it was stressful and my blood sugar showed that.

After she left, I was exhausted.

My husband made dinner. It was a little higher carb than I really wanted, but I was grateful that I didn't have to make it.

While he was prepping for today's Dungeons and Dragons adventure, I watched a little YouTube, and drew on my tablet.

And I ate.

And I ate.

And I ate.

UGH!

I know I'm an emotional eater.

I know I have tools to deal with being emotional.

But...

I didn't use them.

(head slap)

If I was a drinker, I probably would've drank too much. But alcohol makes my body flush all over and my it is really uncomfortable. So I'm not a drinker.

After I realized I was emotionally eating (recognition is the first step to fixing anything), I sat with my feelings.

Sadness.

Grief.

Feeling alone.

Loss of future carbs (dessert, bread, rice, pasta, tortillas...).

FOMO

We go to a lot of social functions where we eat and even though I know there are other diabetics there, I see them eating stuff that I know will spike my blood sugar. I've been there before, when I've had Crohn's flares. I know what this is going to feel like watching others eat food that I can't have.

I know I can have these foods, that I can take more insulin to counter it, but that doesn't feel healthy.

So, I sat in those ugly feelings.

Why?

Because I know if I don't feel the feelings they will find a place to live in my body and wreak more chaos. I'm sure there are emotions that I didn't deal with that are behind the pancreatitis and diabetes. I haven't done the work to clear that yet.

I didn't know I needed too.

Because I didn't look there.

I haven't done a full body scan on myself in a while. It's harder to work on myself than it is to work on you.

You are easy.

I can find your shit easy. Clearing your shit is easy.

Healers need healers.

I've got shit to clear out around that. I'm still feeling very much like I need to DIY my healing.

Feeling the need to DIY instead of paying someone else to do it is a trauma response.

SHIT!!!

It feels expensive. CRAP! That's scarcity.

I guess I need to go find someone to book a session with.

Do you need a healing session?

Here's my link to schedule one.

My week from hell

I woke up Wednesday morning in so much pain.

Pain everywhere.

It was in my stomach, my bowels, my back, everything felt weak, I couldn't breathe deep, and I started puking.

I was supposed to take my daughter to her GI specialist but there was no way that was happening.

Thankfully my son still lives at home and he was able to take her. Both of them asked me if I needed to go to the ER.

I called my husband and told him I was dying.

He left work saw me and scooped me up and took me to the emergency room.

They admitted me to the hospital with pancreatitis and high triglycerides.

This is the second time I've had pancreatitis. The first time was in August of 2009. It was triggered by a reaction to a drug I had been prescribed for Crohn's disease. I was told .05% could get pancreatitis from this drug. Those odds looked good to me. Nope! I was in that super small percentage.

My triglycerides were 7340. They are supposed to be less than 150. Holy shit!!!

They they put me in the heart unit because my heart was not doing well. I don't exactly know what was going on with it, but they moved me from a regular room to one in the telemetry unit.

They said my blood looked like sludge. That's gross.

I spent several days hooked up to insulin drip IV. This lowered my triglycerides.

The tested my blood sugar every hour. EVERY DAMN HOUR!!!!

I did a lot of self Reiki.

I watched animal planet when I felt good enough to be awake but not enough to pay attention to a real plot line. The animals were soothing.

I was diagnosed with diabetes.

Shit! I love carbs!

I learned how to test my blood sugar and how to give myself the insulin injections.

Which by the way are so much easier to do than methotrexate injections.

I had a panic attack the night I got home from the hospital. I just felt so much fear.

I used my tools to make the anxiety go away. I journaled until I had felt the fear and could leave it behind. The fucker keeps visiting me. I say "hello" and send him packing.

Today is Wednesday, again.

I am learning how to manage this new life.

I am grateful for the hospital but I am so grateful that I am home.

My husband has been amazing through the whole experience. He stayed with me as much as he could and when he couldn't be there he had my mom come sit with me.

He's helping me to learn how to eat using the dietary information that they sent us home with. He loves to cook so this is good for us.

Isn't my first big diagnosis. It isn't the first change I'll have to make to my lifestyle. I will manage it.

17 Ways to Raise Your Vibrations

17 Ways to Raise Your Vibrations

The quantity and quality of our energy flow deeply affects our emotions, thoughts and reactions. The quality of our relationships, productivity, creativity and health all depend upon creating a high level of harmoniously flowing energy. The following techniques and ways of life will aid us in building a freer and more positive energy flow and raise your vibrations.

1. Proper Diet: Few of us realize the powerful effect of a proper diet not only on our physical health, but also on our emotional, mental and spiritual states. A clean diet can create greater health, more positive emotional states, clearer mental functioning, and increased spiritual attunement.

2. Vitamins: If we suspect our emotional state may also be the result of a worn down nervous system, we might benefit from a strong multivitamin and mineral supplement for one month.

3. Fasting: We can dramatically improve how we feel with short one-day fasts, or a “mono-diet” in which we eat only one type of food, such as apples, watermelon or grapes. When fasting, some may experience an increase of symptoms if a “healing crisis” is provoked. A beginner in this process should be assisted by an experienced guide.

4. Herbs and Flower Essence: Some herbs can be very calming and/or invigorating, offering an extra boost which may give us the needed optimism we need to make internal changes.

5. Daily Physical Exercise: The body is a living machine, and like all machines, it needs to move or it will begin to develop problems. Exercise is essential not only for a healthy muscular, skeletal, and circulatory system, but also for a relaxed nervous system and balanced endocrine system. This systemic harmony is necessary for emotional and mental peace.

6. Breathing Techniques: These are essential for the abundant flow of vital energy throughout the body and mind. Bio-energy is the basis of all physical and mental functions. Breathing exercises are one of the most effective ways to increase our energy level and keep it steady and harmonious so we will be less susceptible to low emotional states or illness. We should, however, have the guidance of a person experienced in breathing techniques before we begin.

7. Daily Deep Relaxation: This will calm the muscles, nerves and all other bodily systems, and thus rejuvenate the body and the mind. Deep relaxation, in conjunction with the above-mentioned techniques, contributes to the development of a strong and healthy immune system as well as a form of self-therapy from psychosomatic illnesses.

8. Creative Self Expression: This is much more important to our physical, emotional and spiritual health and harmony than most people imagine. Humans are creative beings. Our purpose on Earth is to create in some way. We might create a painting, a piece of music, a dance, a family, a business, etc. Creative self-expression is essential for our health, harmony and happiness.

9. Meaningful Activity: This is necessary for us to feel that our life is worth living. If we do not see what we are doing as meaningful, useful or helpful in some way, we lose our reason to exist, and our health and happiness gradually deteriorate.

10. Massage: Shiatsu massage, polarity massage, spiritual healing, Reiki and other such energy-oriented types of massage can be especially effective in relaxing the nervous system and reducing negativity.

11. Cleansing Techniques: One simple method is to increase the number of showers or baths. Contact with water can be healing and calming.

12. Emotional Release: We might need to partake in a program of emotional release under the guidance of an experienced professional, who can help us release pent up emotions which undermine our health and energy level.

Schedule a free consultation

13. Social Harmonization: We need to discover and overcome any fears or beliefs that prevent us from feeling comfortable with others.

14. Spiritual Orientation: Each of us has their own personal relationship with the universe. Whether or not we adhere to any particular religion, it is important for our inner balance that we feel and cultivate our relationship with the whole as humanity, as nature, or as Spirit.

15. Self-Knowledge: We need to understand our own inner mechanisms, needs, desires, fears, expectations, beliefs and subconscious workings in order to free ourselves from the negative emotions, mechanisms, which undermine our health, happiness and relationships.

16. Enlightening the Subconscious: This aspect of self-improvement usually requires an experienced professional who can help us reprogram the subconscious with positive, more objective beliefs and perceptions of ourselves, others, and the world.

17. Unconditional Love: Showing this towards ourselves and others is the ultimate key to a high and harmonious energy flow.

Are Chakras Cultural Appropriation?

Are Chakras Cultural Appropriation?

Early in 2022 it was brought to my attention that the way we use Chakras in the Western world is different from the original Chakras.

The word Chakra means wheel in Sanskrit.

Chakras have been around for thousands of years. They have their basis in the Hindu and Buddhist religions. Chakras are part of the Tantric teachings, which you’ve probably heard of as Tantric Yoga, and if you are like me, completely misunderstood what that was about too.

Anyway…

Some Hindi believe that we have culturally appropriated chakras, and some believe that they are an open system, shared by all.

With this in mind, it is important to learn a bit more about the origins before we start using them.

First of all, this wasn’t done maliciously, it was done through miscommunication.

In Hindu and Buddhism there are many chakras and they are not connected to any specific part of the body, nor are they attached to any color, number of petals, essential oils, crystals, etc. They are more fluid and manifest in different ways, in different numbers, depending on the belief system you are using.

How did we end up with the Chakra system we use today?

Back in 1577 Purnananada Yati wrote Shatchakra Nirupana, loosely translated, An Explanation of the Six Chakras. This included teachings about the six chakras that are in the body and the seventh above the head. He stated that this is just one version of how to use Chakras. He based this off an 13th Century document.

Then in 1918 John Woodroffe translated Yati’s document, but he did a bad job of it and a lot of mistranslation took place. This translation took hold in the Western academic and occult circles.

Carl Jung, one of the early leaders in psychiatry, found this information and became fascinated with how the seven chakras related to consciousness. He wrote extensively on it and it is from his writings that we start to see the seven chakras connected to things like love, sexuality, instinct, and willpower.

In 1987 Anodea Judith published Wheels of Life, in which she connects each chakra to all the many things we see them connected to now: color, planets, crystals, essential oils, herbs, etc.

In 2019 I began learning about Chakras as I studied Reiki. Chakras are not part of the original Reiki that Dr. Usui taught, but they were later added, and fit very well in the Reiki hand positions.

I’ve thought about using “Energy Centers” instead of “Chakras” but at this point I’m not sure that everyone would get that I was talking about the Western version of the Chakras when I say “Energy Centers” (and it definitely has a much lower SEO ranking than Chakra), so I’m going to continue using the word Chakra. You’ll need to decide for yourself how you feel about this.

The Western Chakras are very much a part of my spirituality and my energy work. I use them to diagnose where I and my clients are out of alignment, showing me where I need to work.

Simple Introduction to the Seven Chakras

Have you heard about Chakras, but find them confusing?

I did too!

But I was determined to learn about them. Now I can help you learn them too!

The more you understand them, the more you can use them to heal yourself and create the life you really want.

Here's a simple introduction to Chakras.

Chakra is a Sanskrit word meaning spinning wheel. This is a system of seven energy centers located along the spine. Each chakra corresponds to an area of the body, a set of behavioral characteristics, and stages of spiritual growth.

Each Chakra is associated with a particular body location, a color, a central emotional/behavioral issue, as well as many other personal aspects including identity, goals, rights, etc.

Click here to Learn More about Your Chakras

The seven Chakras are:

  • Crown- top of head, cerebral cortex.
  • Third Eye- brow
  • Throat - throat
  • Heart- heart area
  • Solar Plexus- upper abdomen
  • Sacral - abdomen, genitals, lower back/hip
  • Root - base of the spine

Practicing yoga and focusing your energies during different postures can help you to align your chakras and get all the wheels spinning in the same direction and speed. Understanding how to fine tune and control your chakras through yoga and meditation can help bring balance and peace to your mind, body and spirit.

Yoga poses for each Chakra are included in the DIY Chakra Card Deck Workshop.
